Ravishing Jewel is an aspiring actress and model who knows how hard the industry can be. She considers her clients her friends, and enjoys meeting new people while on the job. She enforces a very strict division between her personal time and the rest of her life, in order to allow for time to relax, reset, and “center” herself. She meditates and is a firm believer in related spiritual practices.

“People don’t really understand just how hard models work,” Jewel says. “I’m not complaining. It’s hard work, but it’s not the hardest work out there, not by a long shot. There are people working in coal mines and fighting in wars who are working so hard I’m ashamed to bring it up by comparison. But it does seem like everybody has an opinion about the modeling industry, because they think they know it. They think they know it because of stuff they’ve seen on television and in the movies. The reality is a little different.”
Jewel goes on, “Being a model isn’t just going to different, exciting locations and looking pretty while people take your picture. I mean, yes, you do that, but there are a lot of other steps. There is a lot of work that goes into ‘going places and looking pretty.’ I think without a doubt, though, that the worst part is the seasonal nature of the business. You never get to wear the clothes that are appropriate to the season, because your shoots involve clothes that will be on sale a few months from now when the weather changes. So you’ll be out there on a beautiful sunny each in a string bikini, with this enormous smile on your face, and you have to pretend you aren’t freezing because it’s 50 degrees Fahrenheit outside. And then when the weather gets warm, you have to sit there sweating and hoping you’re not staining the clothes, because now it’s blistering hot but you’re preparing a shoot for when the weather is cold again. Dealing with those differences in temperature is exhausting. Most of us have forgotten what it was like to be too warm or too cold and be unable to really do anything about it.”
The most difficult aspect of working as a model, Jewel says, really had more to do with the people she encountered. “I liked the people I worked with,” she says, “but of course you did get the occasional creep who thought that beautiful models were all willing to do whatever he asked because he had money and power. There are always some of those casting-couch types out there. I have never worried too much about it. And I like meeting and getting to know men. I just don’t like it when someone implies I don’t have a choice if I know what’s good for me. Still, the biggest issues I had as a model had more to do with the other girls than with any other factor. Some of them were on drugs, some of them had eating disorders, and all of them had emotional baggage.”
It is this emotional baggage that an escort does not bring to her job, Jewel points out. “The reason men book time with me is because they’re tired of the problems more traditional dates because,” she says. “That’s why I have to treat my position with a lot of respect. I want my clients to see that, yes, booking with me really is an improvement over traditional dating. They should feel like they’re doing the right thing, and they should get to experience the benefits. Even if I’m having a bad day, or even if I have something going on in my personal life, I can never bring that to my date. My clients must never know anything about my personal baggage, because part of the benefit of dating an escort is never having to deal with any of that. I’m proud of myself for being able to do that, too. I don’t inflict my personal life on my clients, and they, in turn, are able to relax and enjoy their time with me. The result is that we both have a better time, we both enjoy each other’s company, and everything works out for our date. When these things are positive, the client comes back again… and if he asks for me personally, then I know we are establishing a real connection, which is also a lot of fun.”
Jewel concludes, “I love my job, and I know that I’m good at it. I’m lucky to be able to work as an escort. But the thing I love most about my job are the clients themselves. They’re a lot of fun and I’m grateful for them. I always try to keep that in my mind.”
